Rabelais, Crowley and Thelema

Interesting results today from a random wikipedia hit. I thought I would test the internetmancy waters once more, and the first result I got was for Francois Rabelais.

His wikipedia entry came up, and I thought this is interesting, a 14th century French monk and literary figure. As I read down something tweaked in my mind, and a google search confirmed.

Rabelius is the guy who first used the term Thelema , and had a protypical Abbey of Thelema in his writings. Crowley got the basis of thelema, and the abbey concept straight from reading Rabelius. Not from some musty tome of archane law, or entities or even a sudden flash of insight.

He just read it. Though that it’s ‘do what thou wilt’ philosophy and utopian vision sounded cool, and used it as the basis for his new ‘religion’

Rabelais used the thelema ideas in his novels, which were very controversial in 15th century France.

The synchronicity of that random wikipedia page is amazing. I had just been listening to the latest paracast where the listener/host was talking about his experience with chaos magick, and also with crowley. This is a really strong message.

Aliester Crowley was just a person, like you and I. He was flawed, and his ideas cane to him from the universe, just like yours do to you.

I believe his controversial behavior was modeled somewhat on the actions of Rabelius also.

Another amazing internetmatcy session

Heretics and Information Integrity

In the past thousands of years (as soon as some kind of orthodox religion sets in and gets a recognized priesthood), as soon as people develop within themselves spiritually, and continue to remain inside a traditional organisation, they are labeled a heretic and most people do not want to hear their views.

Those in power actively suppress and persecute them, and those in the group who do not also realise the new truth quickly will shun them.

Its like those in charge know that just being exposed to an idea that has dissonance with the consensus world view changes the receiver of the message.

I think at some level it is not the “truth” of the claims by the heretic that those in the established power do not want others to hear, it is more that they want to hold up the “Information Integrity” (there’s a new term for you) of the established tradition.

Introducing evolutionary noise into their closed system will transform it, destroy it. It will break down the power hierarchies (that’s one of the best things that free flowing information does) and open people up to new world views.

The internet has been great for this, and for showing people that there are many other free thinkers out there. And sure, a lot of it may be rubbish, and your own internal filters get better and better and sorting that out as you progress. Better have the choice to use your internal filtering system than having information sanitised and drip fed to you.

This whole idea of internal filters is something that I have talked about elsewhere in the past. It’s this whole yin / yang concept.  It’s about having a dynamic balance between a closed and open mind. By looking for the interesting, genuine and wondrous while still remaining skeptical, balanced and grounded. There are no clear answers for this, its all about knowing what the correct action is in the present moment (that one of my own definitions for enlightenment by the way.)

And another thing while I perch on the virtual soapbox a second longer, what is the point of having ’spiritual movements’, if they don’t allow people to spiritually grow? Spiritual growth isn’t learning to do the practice better, the rituals more precisely, to recite the dogma straight from the text the clearest.

It’s about having insight, and using these to grow, share, create and live.

The modern subconscious is a deep ocean to fish

The modern subconscious has been so filled up with media, conditioning, schooling, parenting and working that it must be one of the most dense information stores in the history of the universe. The thing is that we are not really provided with any nets or fishing gear at the moment (that’s what shamans etc were good for), and the things found in its murky depths are not taken to be of any value.

By looking into sources of information noise, such as random wikipedia sources (method) and looking within yourself, you stir these waters and can see thoughts as the arise to the surface from the pressurized depths. These strange creatures are the whole basis for our civilization, culture.

This is a great tool to explore your own inner and outer reality.

Its just like tarot cards. They are just symbols on a page, with no actual absolute value. The interpretation of each card changes from person to person, even in subtle ways. The literal meaning of the cards is not the important bit. How these random media work is that they stir the mind in unexpected and unpredicted ways, and allow fresh insights to emerge. Signal from noise.

What is the January Solution?

The phrase January Solution appeared before me this morning, as I ate my cereal and got my mind together before starting work.

A search on this term resulted in no answers, and so I offer some possible explanations.

DEFINITION

Perhaps a January Solution is an idea that takes the events of the previous year, and puts them in a manageable form so that a new year can be started without repeating the mistakes of the previous one. A January Solution is like a new years resolution of sorts, a way of wiping the slate clean and starting again.

Hey perhaps that’s what I need to do with my working life a bit as well at the moment. Go back and work on some projects that came up earlier in the year, but were abandoned as shinier looking fruits appeared beside the path as the year went on

SECOND DEFINITION
It could also be the title of a not yet made 60’s retro spy movie, like James Bond but not a rip off. It has that action and adventure title to it though doesn’t it. Maybe it is a title of a novel that I will write in the near future. I am 100% sure that someone will write a novel with this title in the next year or so

Science Fiction Future Direction

I was thinking today about science fiction, and how it has always been the fiction of ideas. These science fiction novelists have always been pumping out new ideas, and trying to place them in the context of a narrative in order to make them more easily digestable by the public.

Becuase the pay for a novelist over the past 50 years has been, on the average, pretty poor, with only those that make the best seller lists making anything like a decent income, most of these science fiction novelists toiled day and night for very little income or even critical reward.

For instance Phillip K Dick used to pump out novel after novel to try to keep the wolves at the door, and these earned him just enough to get by when he was alive. After his death, the ideas and plot lines in these stories have earned holywood Billions of dollars. The list of films based on Dicks work is staggering.

Now, imagine the time Now, if you can. These days, writers can sit down day and night and pump out ideas, but these days they can do them in bogs. All of these Novel ideas are then indexed, and if they are searched for by people then they have a chance of generating income via PPC advertising etc.

Having new, novel ideas would allow you to build a massive long tail, well ahead of the curce that should pay of as people start to search for the new terms that these articles contain.

Say you coin the terms InfoAchons, and write a blog post about some Archytype based digital entities that start to gain an autonomous hold of the internet. It could be written in any form, even as a pseudo factual peice. As long as the keyword density was right, it would be spidered by the search engines, and found by people interested by the concept. Words locked in paper may be dead words.

Japanese SNES Tarot Game

I was just reading on wikipedia that they developed a tarot reading game for the SNES in Japan, but could not release it anywhere else in the world becuase of the religious sensitivities.

I am going to try to hunt down a ROM copy and see what it was like, would be very interesting to see I would think. The SNES was a great system in its day, and I, like many of my friends spent long hours in front of it.

To be able to do a tarot spread on it would be very interesting. Apparently it used the Rider Waite deck, so seeing 16 bit pixelated reporductions of the death card would be very interesting indeed.

Signal To Noise Ratio is Reality

Everything that you experience in your life can be applied to the information theory idea of signal to noise.

There is a message in everything if you look hard enough, and everything is just nonsense as well. The whole of reality is some crazy zen koan that no-one gets, but everyone is constantly trying to figure out.

Knowledge is the all powerful, all controling force of the universe, but no one really knows where it comes from. It kind of just springs out of nowhere really. Everything just emerges from a source and becomes “real” when we give it a meaning.

On the surface reality looks very solid, very 3D. But there are many overlying dimensions, some of which probably exist only in the minds of men i must say, but none the less they are dimensions which interact and have a massive impact on the physical reality.

All through history there has been this huge interplay between the signal and the noise. Between the Ying and the Yang, Chaos and Order… you know the rest.

It is a constant interplay between knowing and unknowing. Between having the answer, and realizing that in reality, you know nothing at all about what is going on. Everytime in history that people think that they have the final answer, something has always happened to show them that they in fact were quite wrong.
And this is good. This is the evolution of the knowledge sphere, the noosphere or whatever you want to call it.

Take for instance the idea of magick. I mean real magick, performed by occultists.. Do you think its real? Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. Probably doesn’t even really matter. What does matter is that the ideas developed in it have had a profound evolving impact on Science, Art, Culture, Music, Literature, History, Psychology and 100 other disciplines at least.

Reality is fiction, and fiction is reality. It is another constant interplay, a flux of meaning and nonsense.

Information is the foundation of reality

Welcome everyone who finds their way to this site. Please feel free to bookmark the page, subscribe to the RSS feed and explore. While there is not much on here at this stage, that is likely to change over the coming weeks and months. The information that is going to be presented here is going to be of interest to a wide variety of people. From physicists to occult researchers, philosopher to historian, scholars and self appointed mystics. The underlying premise of the site has implications that stretch deep into the nature of reality, civilization and consciousness.

It is a theory that integrates the latest thinking in quantum physics and M-theory with Aeons of magickal and mystical traditions in a new and mind expanding way.

I am here to present a different perspective of the accepted makeup of the universe and reality. An alternative viewpoint that may challenge the very fundamental assumptions as to what these areas of knowledge are actually describing, and what the underlying phenomena that underpins space, time and consciousness actually stem from. Throughout history people have speculated on what makes reality, what it is fundamentally composed of, and what is the force that drives it. For time immemorial mystics, shamans and magi have described worlds parallel to our own, hidden dimensions where strange denizens lie, of worlds separate but intimately connected to our own.

INFORMATION IS THE KEY
From years of research I have developed a different viewpoint to the accepted normal stance. This viewpoint is as follows: Information is the underlying factor of the universe. That in fact that the universe is a sea of information, manifesting itself in physical reality, but also having a separate existence of its own. Recent advances in quantum physics, information theory, computing have shed light on a variety of strange phenomena that information can display.

While this theory may seem simple, naive and even stupid at first glance, further examination shows that the correlations, claims, theories and perspectives that I will outline on the site do have a good deal of truth to them.

Roughly five years ago gradual understanding developed in myself. At the time I was simultaneously studying quantum mechanics, sting theory, Advaita Vedanta and western occultism. By reading these normally disparate subjects at the same time, I came to realise that certain passages in one field of study could easily apply to the others. We have all become accustomed to people marrying up quantum physics with eastern mysticism, but this understanding was something different. Further meditation and research, combined with more in-depth analysis allowed me to develop the theory that these spiritual and magickal texts, while at one level describing spirit, soul, entities, energies, symbols and natural laws could also be describing information, signal, noise, code and programs, memes, system theory, emergence and complexity.

Further study in the fields of paranormal encounters, UFOlogy, Zen, Goetia , Encochian Magick and the tarot have also shown me that this universe information has a “mind” of its own. Much like your personality has parts of its own, so does the information nature of the Universe.

The really interesting thing is that I am not claiming anything new here, this information has been contained in the secret, and also not so secret teachings of every civilization known to man. I am going to explain in this blog how modern science and ancient secrets are going to come together in the near future and realise that they were talking about the same thing all along.
