Damaged Minds, Damaged Earth

I was just thinking today that one of the reasons that human society is on such shaky ground is that we really don’t care how much damage the current system does to the mental space of people.

Depending on who and how much you read, modern life is screwing us all up to a small or a large degree, making us all dependent, semi psychopathic, despondent and depressed. This is only taking into account those of us lucky enough to be in developed, western countries. For people in the third world, or currently suffering through war or extreme poverty i can only barely imagine the day to day stresses that it places on man, woman and child.

People broken inside are not going to be thinking for ways to turn the system around, to build a better world for their children and start caring for the physical space around them. No, they are most likely to be looking at ways to drown out the nagging voice inside them telling them they are wasting their lives, or consuming more and more to feel like they are winning a game of which there are only losers.

We have to realise that the total health of all of our personal mental realms is just as important and valid as the physical realm we all live in. To build a different system, one that we will need when this endless cycle of growth and consumerism has reached its limit (very soon) we need everyone to know the unlimited potential that we as humanity hold.

Its All About Finding The Others

This blog is all about finding the others really.

If anything on this blog resonates with you, please send me an email at steve@informationreality.com, or follow the inforeality twitter account or some other such thing. We need to start the dialogue and building some new and original plans, models and forecasts of how the world is changing, and what pieces of the puzzle we can be in the grand scheme of things.

When I say piece of the puzzle, i really mean what part you will play in the story of the continuation and learning of humanity and the universe. It doesn’t matter if you don’t play a part in working for your country, or serving the national interest, or being a good citizen.

I mean look deep into yourself, into your true self and hear the voice inside that want to get out, and listen to what that aspect of yourself wants to do. That is what you are here to achieve. Everything else is just a funny play put on by bad actors.

Terrence Mckenna used to say, when people asked him what they should do with their insights from entheogenic or spiritual transformation, “find the others.” In groups ideas have the medium they need to evolve and compete.

Universe of Perpetual Confusion

We live in a universe of perpetual confusion. As soon as a scientist, leader or mystic comes forward and says that “I have the answer”, a new person always comes along and shows us all that they may have had some parts right, but never all of the answer correct.

The further we push the boundaries of knowledge, the more we find how little we actually know. Which makes it hard for people these days to come up with any kind of definite answer, any way to get a solid frame of reference around the current circumstances of the world.

It looks on the surface like the current system is falling apart, but there seems to be very few alternatives being put out there as to what anyone should do about it. Every concept that is truth also contains its false nature. Every path seems to have as many bad points as good points.

There are so many people sick of the current way of doing things, on having to degrade the planet and billions of its inhabitants for the privilege of consuming crap and enslaving each other. But there are no real clear alternatives, or new models coming together.

There really has not been one for a long time.

World economy has a long way down to go

Looking at news.com.au today, they had a piece about Kevin Rudd writing an essay about “Stopping Capatilism Canabilising Itself” . It looks like it is going to make interesting reading when it is released later this week.

The leaders of the world are starting to realise that you can run an infinite, ever growing system on the top of a finite resource (the earth.) With more people than ever, this may be the first wakeup for modern western people that they cannot continue to consume the resources of the rest of the world, and the resources of the future people of the earth. They are simply going to run out of ‘stuff’ to commoditise, reprocess and sell to the masses.

I think the current world leaders have inherited some massive problems from the cut and run, slash and burn neo conservative style that has dominated politics for the last two decades in the worlds leading countries. Complete free market capitalism has burnt every resource until in becomes no longer renewable, a barren wasteland that can not be re-used, re- farmed, re-mined etc.

The modern world as it stands now offers people so much, but also takes so much. We need to find a way to keep the parts of it we like, and get rid of the parts that cost way to much to justify… fast.

The Media Covers A Fractured Version Of The Truth

There is the common misconception in modern society that the news media is concerned with telling you the truth. I am sure there are some journalists out there who uphold some standards of truth telling, however the vast majority know their place is in the entertainment business.

Its not about telling the truth, its about telling people a fractured version of factual events. The version that entices them to watch more, and not be so confronting as to turn the channel.

And i can see that you can view the world as either filled with misery, or filled with love, and each would have certain validity in the viewpoint expressed. But what we are shown and told on a daily basis from the media is that there is bad shit that happens, things will always be this way and there is not a thing that we can do about it.

We really need to get away from the concept of news, and start to develop programs more around action. Like instead of seeing a passive showreel of atrocities on different scales, we should see programming showing people who are getting a foothold against the machine of endless growth, greed and capitalism and are starting to put people, and the world in front of bottom lines and balance sheets.
