One thing the random wikipedia article has shown me is that there is just a massive amount of boring facts out there. I mean, i am as big a trivia buff as anyone out there, but this stuff just serves no purpose whatsoever.
Some of the things that are recorded are so trivial that i am sure that No-one will ever have to refer back to that page as the answer to any query about anything ever. But it sure is building one complete semantic database of the whole of human thought and history. So big thumbs up there for sure.
With all of this knowledge and connection, it can’t be too long before some bright spark works out how bootstrap some kind of basic AI to sort and collate all of the pages, and by infering the links and the connections, bring about a basic level of intelligence. Becuase thats one of the basic things that shows that a system / person is intelligent. The amount of meaningful connections they can make between two physicly or informationaly disparate entities before them.
It is going to be the same for human intelligence going forward. Every fact, well at least one persons interperetation of every fact, that has ever been relevant will be recorded in the near future. With data traveling with us in our pockets, wrists or even interfaced into our brains remembering facts is going to be a waste of brain power, while interopereting data and connection will be the evolutionary driving force going forwards
